Title: Temporal Flux 2.00 Progress
Post by: ZeaLitY on November 05, 2005, 04:28:11 pm
The Temporal Flux 2.00 preview in our features section has been receiving many hits over the last month. Geiger recently posted a Q&A concerning project's progress on ACMLM's rom hacking forum. The good news is that Flux is back on track!

Q) Is Temporal Flux dead?
A) No, but it has slowed to a glacial progress.

Q) I thought 2.0 was supposed to be out in June or something.
A) It was, and it would have been.. but I lost my previous job. While I was massively underpaid, it did give me some nice pluses, like plenty of spare time and access to the latest tools.

Q) Why is it taking so long?
A) Because I now have about 5 hours per day to do things I previously took about 14 hours for. Given that a number of these items are vital, like eating for example, and it leaves little time to concentrate and code. Add to that the chaos of commuting 150 miles to work and living in two different cities, and, well, hardly anything gets done.

Q) Well, when will 2.0 actually be out?
A) I would really like to think it would be by or on the first anniversary of the initial release, but that seems unlikely given the number of bugs to smooth out.

Q) Open source it!
A) Since I make a living from writing software, the concept of making my own copyrighted work open source gives me chills. I have no plans to open source this, or any of my other full projects. If at some point I should call it quits though, for whatever reason, I promise that the source will be passed into capable hands. As I get more and more paranoid about life in general, this may happen anyway, just so the project will survive me.

Q) Nuts. Well, how many bugs are left?
A) As of this post, there are 11 open bugs. Some are minor, some are not.

Let's wish Geiger luck -- Temporal Flux is about the only editor in its class concerning ability to edit SNES RPGs, and we're fortunate to have these editing capabilities. I hope everyone is enjoying the coliseum; a new version is on the way that smooths out the previous bugs and also features a new surprise appearance. Also, look forward this week to the release of Chrono Trigger's sound effects in .spc format. Until then!

Macs are awesome. Learning how to program on one is not easy, though. It's so hard to find books and teachers on the subject, since there aren't a ton of them, like there are for Windows and Linux, even though OS X is quite a superior OS in many ways. At least in my opinion.

But seriously, porting to a Mac would take too long.

Intel Based Macs will fix all this. First of all a simple windows driver will be released, for free i believe, and second, i think it took them only half an hour to port, i think its called Rosetta, which i really complex software, to the mac.

blah blah idiocy

Mac users are usually very elitist with some intelligence to back it up. You've got one down so far there, buddy. And for the record, ME-tan could own Yum any day =) (http://pds.egloos.com/pds/1/200503/28/91/a0007891_1227527.gif)

Has Geiger really said much about incorporating support for the pre in Temporal Flux? I'm not interested in editing/modifying, more for an easy tool to view event data and compressed stuffs.

OS X is a PPC (soon to be x86) derrivative of BSD, with a fancy GUI and some other stuff thrown in. In essence, OS X is Linux.

I suppose I should state my opinion better. I like all three OSs all about the same, though I think I dislike Windows the most. I just get annoyed hearing the Mac hate.

pfft i just hate windows it has too many bugs that can mess major things up and they just coem out of no where and they intergrate too many microsoft products into the core system they intergrate IE so much if you pick up a virus that you can get just by being connected to the damn internet windows get screwed.

windows is just too screwed up to use with a personal non-games computer for my tastes

Both operating systems have there strengths and weaknesses. I will say one thing though, I was a Windows user all the way a few years back, and was very skeptical of macs. Then when I ended up using them for my digital design class in school, I must say I was impressed, even to the point I would actually consider buying one some day. Very stylish, stable, and very nice to use. Great for applications like Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc. (anything you use for designing) - though not so good for games and such, though OS X does have a few high-profile titles available for it. I would recommend OS X to anyone who has interests in design - no matter what level you are - and likes a nice looking and easy to use OS. Other than that, stick with Windows.

But you can't build your own Mac until the x86 edition ships...

We all have our own opinions on Computers to use but you don't have to go out and start saying "Mac (or) PC is ultimate Machine" because both of them have their flaws.

More but not all, and they are not the same with a controller.
