Title: I hate my country (Ireland)
Post by: Romana on July 27, 2006, 07:01:58 am
I just wanted to make this topic to point out the stupidity of the people in my home country.

I'll list a ton of bullet points to show you all what is wrong with this country and why I hate it.

About gaming:
1. Very few people like RPGs
2. Pokemon/Yugioh games are considered childish because of the anime
3. Nearly everyone has some bizarre obsession with racing games and 'pimping up your ride'
4. Out of the all of the people I've talked to about Chrono trigger in my school, about 2 or 3 knew what it was
5. People do not play any games thoroughly, they complete it once and brag about how quickly they finished it
6. Nintendo isn't respected for its innovation - these people only care about guns and gore
7. Games are judged by graphics, gameplay never comes into it
8. Japan is discriminated against
9. If the words 'Fifa' or 'Football' are slapped on the box, they eat it right up

And Why I made this topic to release my anger:
1. Everything is corrupt - you can get killed because of your religion
2. If you're a guy with long hair, apparently you're a 'grunger' - which isn't actually a real word, it doesn't mean anything at all
3. Grammar is terrible - have a look at an extract from a crappy Irish page:
hwy wdc soz dnt tb the day ma free texts ran out!!! dats neva happened me b4! lol but im gettin a top up damara so ill txt ye wat ye up 2 dis weekend?
Can you believe this idiot's spelling? 'damara'? wtf?
4. It seems Ireland is just discovering what forums are: on a website called 'Bebo', they started school forums, the only things you can do are add comments and modify and delete them. There are no features besides that, no Bold, Italics, Underlining, or being able to include pictures or links.
5. Guns and cars are over-popular. Almost everyone here talks about cars' spoilers (So goddamn pointless!) and big guns from Grand Theft Auto games.
6. Everyone thinks they can fight just because they say so - They act all confident with their gang of idiot friends around, but challenge them to a fight, and watch them hesitate and make up dumb excuses. My friend got in a fight with the local 'badass'. My friend punched him in the nose and that was it. Beaten.
7. Fashion here could not be more stupid. The 'hoods' or whatever they call themselves wear caps, and wear their coat hoods over them. Result? Pointless. And it also makes them look like fags.
8. Football/Soccer is taken far too seriously. People get killed for liking a different team, and instead of fanatics asking "Do you like football?", they ask you "What team do ya support?". I don't like football, you see, and those idiots assume everyone likes football. Everyone gasps in shock when I say I don't like it. Typical.

Sorry for the mindless talk, but I just wanted to show an example of how stupid people can be.

Time for me to roll out one of history's bromides: The grass is always greener on the other side of the bank. As someone who has never set foot in Ireland, I have nevertheless taken a deep fascination over the years in Irish history, culture, and mythology. It is on the short list of countries I want to backpack in.

Maybe I can be my own, modern-day St. Patrick...bringing RPGdom to the masses! Hmm...St. Lord J, Esq. Has a nice ring to it!

And did I mention I love the Guinness...

Believe me that the same things that i have listed also happen in Turkey. And I'll add 2 more :

" Talking with too many bad words-slangs "

" Trying to insult somebody - in a funny way mostly - in a conversation with too many people "

Hah, among my war history buff friends, Ireland always gets ragged on as that caustic place that damaged its own nest. I've got a handful of these guys who just love discussing this stuff hours on end, talking about kings, battles, and such. The list goes like this:

*Anglo-Saxon England was magnificent under Alfred, but later sucked
*England was magnificent for most the Middle Ages and Renaissance except when they lost the opportunity to conquer France and then lost their empire in the 20th century, losing their masculinity as a result
*France was interesting for the Middle Ages except for Philip's withdrawal from the Third Crusade, and later became unbelievable through Napoleon
*Spain was mostly a religious sludge pond

Yeah, I could go on, but I'll stop here.

Religious sludge pond, heheh. That MUST be included in Crimson Echoes from some Zeal-hater, like Dalton or such. That'd be funny.  :D

Yeah, most of that stuff certainly isn't limited just to Ireland, I'm afraid...People are stupid the world over...

1) Go figure, RPGs aren't the main genre in the gaming market...Who knew? Oh, right, everyone...
2) But the Pokemon & Yu-Gi-Oh games are childish...In the same way that M:TG is childish. 8) That doesn't mean that they aren't good in any way. And can you blame them? English versions of anime are almost always horribly butchered...plus, they're about kids battling w/fantasy monsters and fantasy monsters in a card game...
3) Hey, Gran Tourismo kicks ass! The other stuff is just this stupid MTV-driven "counter-culture" generation...
4) No shit? People (who aren't into RPGs) don't know about the most awesome 15-year-old RPG? Damn shame...
5) Most games don't have the greatest replay value...They can't all be Trigger, y'know...
6) What innovation would that be? Guns and gore satisfy a primitive desire in many gamers (us males mostly)...Plus, blowin' stuff up is cool!
7) We've become a graphics-heavy gaming culture now-a-days...I still think you're overstating the situation though...People still care about gameplay...That's why nobody w/any sense plays movie-based games (outside of KH I guess)...
8) ?????? I don't get it, but there will always be people who don't like other people for no real reason...*shrugs*
9) That's just because so many non-Americans are in love w/that stupid sport...It's the same here w/American football...Only we're pissed off now that EA has all the rights to the franchise names & all that crap so they just shit out half-assed games on the fans...

That made me laugh quite a bit. No wonder they can afford to make so many games, they make one every time they do a dootie.  Nah, they've bought a ton of other companies, I hear. They're like the richest 3rd party...

I'm a long haired Yankee that'll be in Ireland later this year. Anything I should be concerned about?

That sounded a lot like the rest of the world. Not that big of a surprise though -- even ancient Rome had its share of graffiti artists and idiots.

I prefer Capcom vs. SNK 2. You'll see your favorite character kick some SNK ass.

It is a better game than Marvel vs. Capcom 2 in all ways.

Always do your homework before traveling abroad, and be prepared for all likely contingencies! I might note that it takes seventeen pints of Guinness to hike from Killarney to Kilkenny. Pack accordingly.

RD, find out how much locally sold De Loreans cost. The factory was in Dublin, and I've heard that they're cheap there. Once I...have the practical means to buy one, I'll go ahead and pay the transatlantic shipping costs if I can save another $10,000 by importing.

Are they really still making them? Oh, a tidbit from my roommate, who is a huge Back to the Future fan. The DeLoreans used in the films did not have stock engines. They used Volvo and Porsche engines, because they were more reliable. Something to think about if you aquire a DeLorean.

I think DMC stopped making them in 2004.

Why stop at Ireland?  Why not America?  The world?

I hate America, and things are only going to get worse (that's what they call the "American Way.") Not even Jesus could fix this piece of crap.

Or is this the I.R.A?

Another country

Jesus is the one who broke it. The people least likely to worship him are the most likely to stand up and fight for a better world.

Let me also say that blind hatred of America is inappropriate. It is understandable, certainly, but it is neither a wise nor a knowledgeable opinion. There is plenty to criticize about that particular nation--plenty to hate, even. And yet, it has done so much good for the world. Even though the United States is presently ruled by a coalition of neoconservative warmongers and Christian fundamentalists, it is still at the center of so much progress, so much learning, and so much justice.

When there is both good and bad, one must take both the good and the bad.

Well said. But I keep getting the feeling that I (in Ireland) am only taking the bad... ¬_¬

They stopped making De Loreans in 1983 due to (I think) the UK backing out their investments in the company. Nonetheless, I've heard that a bunch of those cars are proliferated throughout Ireland. One would think they'd be rusted from the sea, but stainless steel bodies take care of that.

America hate is humorous in multiplayer. I always relish it when a loser begins shouting at me purely because I am American. The insults vary across countries. UK people always talk of twats and wankers. Today, some Polish gentleman told me to "kiss your ass" after I came back and captured the flag on him.

Multiplayer? Oh man, there are always these morons starting to talk crap about Nazis without even knowing what the word stands for.
Damn this/they is/are stupid.
