Title: Forum Style Ideas!
Post by: ZeaLitY on January 08, 2005, 08:30:29 pm
You might be tired of the Subsilver look of this forum. We can now rectify this by adding new styles and templates. I just need ideas. Descriptiveness helpful. We should already plan to do

-All the Chrono Trigger eras
-Magus
-Magus's Lair

For the Magus's Lair, we can use the lit candlestick sprite for forums with new posts, and an extinguished one for ones without. We can virtually make a style on any topic in the Chrono series.

Try out the new style in 'Profile.' I need someone to make buttons for everything in http://www.chronocompendium.com/Forums/templates/Classic/images/lang_english/ . We'll be done then.

I don't mind how the site looks now but a little variety can never hurt. If people don't like the results they can always revert to how it used to look.

We need a really good looking 12,000 B.C.. This is my favorite era and I believe the same holds true for many. I'll try to find time to put up some ideas in the next few days. I do like the classic board style that's already there.

Yeah, Magus' lair would be cool, or something extremely Zealian.

I just hope this simple style stays the standard style...because I usually delete cookies after each use and such...But whatever...Maybe that'll change for me...I've always wanted a "Chrono Trigger System" Style. If you've got the Winamp Skin of the same (or at least similar) name, then you know what I mean...I'll look for a link to the skin in a sec, but I suppose that people here know what I mean. The neat little white boxes, the white-gloved pointer fingers, etc...

That's what the skin looks like, but I guess that doesn't really show the cursor glove pointer...

http://www.winamp.com/skins/details.php?id=100605

Although, now that I look at the skin...I'd rather the forums to look more genuinely like the Chrono Trigger System than that skin...

I like V_ Translanka's idea, very much, actually.  If there was some way we could transport that basic design into a forum...

How about this: the current bright blue bars that go across the page would be replaced with the gradiated mottled gray text background.  The light blue/white hues of text boxes would be light grey/white.  All the buttons will be written in the CT font and use icons from the game-- status effects, menu icons, and of course the gloved pointer.  Hmmm, I like the sound of that.

Good idea.  I genuinely concur.

(It's funny cuz CuteLucca's post and signature go together so well!)

I noticed the other day (and maybe this is just on my computer) that on the alternate colour scheme, buttons like "submit" & "preview" were hard to read because they were both gray. (I think)

Might want to look into that. I dunno if those are the same buttons you were talking about earlier.

Those have been fixed; I just need the "New Topic" "MSNM" and such photoshopped. I'd rather not do it, as I don't have much skill at image editing.

If you need photoshopping for the small buttons, I can help out with the full set if you want to make them in the scheme I mentioned above-- or any other scheme, for that matter.

I've been pondering the CT scheme, and the main issue seems to be limited expertise with PHPBB. I'm not quite sure how we can make posts have the CT background, but I do have the CT font, ripped by a visiting member. We'd also have to decide on some colors.

Ramsus is going to look in to the CT theme. In the meantime, these need to be photoshopped, or have new buttons made for them in order to complete the Classic layout. By the way, should I make Classic default, meaning it will display to guests and such as the natural style?

Stuff that needs photoshopping/creation:

Hmm...  that might be all right except for one thing...  I really like the Classic layout (much easier on the eyes late at night than subSilver) but it keeps confusing me because there isn't a noticeable enough difference between the icons for topics with new posts and topics without.  Other than that it's great.

I'll make those flames bigger. Yeah, computer monitors can be like a giant lightbulb; I prefer darker styles.

Whoa...I'm using the Classic layout for the first time...sweet...

Arc Impulse is right.  It IS easier on the eyes when you're tired.  One thing I liked about subSilver was that it was really easy to find which posts you haven't looked at yet.  In this layout, you sort of have to find the different sprite (granted, they're at the top of the list).

This warrants some Engrish.

"These are the kickass"

Uploaded, and the Classic style is now the default, so all the guests can enjoy it.

If it hasn't been figured out already, I think that various buttons (edit, quote, profile, etc) should be like, for my idea of the Chrono Trigger System, the Magics of Chrono Trigger. Like the boxes in the status menu that tells that Crono is Lightning and Magus is Shadow and whatnot, only, of course, with different words...yeah...

Should we have more ranks? Part of the fun of ACMLM's board is figuring out all the ranks they have. No one's a Nu yet, and we have one Arbiter.

Current ranks

However, too many would make things seem disorganized. And yes, they should follow a certain motif or something.

Haha, that would be good.

Maybe Arcadia Dragoon?

Post by: Leebot on February 16, 2005, 05:22:50 pm
Maybe once one reaches 100 posts, they should get a new rank for every hundred (ie. 100, 200, 300...).
Title: Forum Style Ideas!
Post by: V_Translanka on February 16, 2005, 08:41:48 pm
Yeah, I just noticed how wierd the intervals are...15, 50, 125, 250, 500, 1000...

When someone reaches 100 their name thingy should be **.
Title: Forum Style Ideas!
Post by: Leebot on February 16, 2005, 11:36:59 pm
How about this for levels:

0
10
25
50
100
200
300
400
500
600
700
800
900
1000

On the one hand, that'd be a good tie in to the game, but on the other hand, I'd like to see ** be pretty high up the chain, unless it would just be for that one post count, sort of as an easter egg.

Does anyone agree that this should be based on senority and not post count?

Yes. Just not sure if PHPBB can do that.
Title: Forum Style Ideas!
Post by: Radical_Dreamer on February 17, 2005, 08:53:38 pm
If any thing, it should be a combination of the two. No reason that someone who signed up in the first weeks and hasn't logged in since should "out rank" a new, active member of the community.
Title: Forum Style Ideas!
Post by: ZeaLitY on February 17, 2005, 10:38:59 pm
Yeah. I'll ask Ramsus about it next time I see him. If anything, PHPBB headquarters might have a simple plugin or fix.

Anyone want to see the new rank table?

I'm not even sure how that would work...From when someone signed up? How active they are? Fuh? Whatever, I don't know...Let's see what we've got!

And, yeah, I was thinking that ** would only be for 100 and then would change to something else at 101. But, whatever...

Wouldn't it make more since if Serge was the Dimension crosser? You know, since he's the one who's actually crossing the dimensions?

Stupid Pierre...

Title: Forum Style Ideas!
Post by: ZeaLitY on February 20, 2005, 07:28:30 pm
Serge is the Arbiter. Originally I was going to use Kid and Serge as the Dimension Crosser and Errare Explorer, but they fit better for Radical Dreamer and Arbiter. Just get past Dimension Crosser, and you'll get a cooler sprite for EE.

The man himself.

And I chose Pierre just because he's familiar to the fans at least (moreso than someone like Nikki wouldbe), and because of his Frozen Flame quote, which is kickass.
Title: Forum Style Ideas!
Post by: V_Translanka on February 22, 2005, 06:27:13 pm
Alright, I'm past the complaining about Pierre now (although, really, I'd prefer Pierre the lawyer...)...But, how is he more recognizable than Nikki? They're at the same branching point (along with Guile, which I also would have prefered)...and Pierre's is probably the more difficult path to choose (in terms of getting him to go with you), because with the other two, all you have to do is talk to someone in Termina (Miki in Nikki's and Guile himself in his own).

What do you think of the forum image?

Also, a new style is on the way for PHPBB3, called Zurvan. It's an Ocean/Dragon Tear/Dreamy theme, primarily blue.
Title: Forum Style Ideas!
Post by: V_Translanka on February 24, 2005, 06:16:51 pm
So, I guess Zurvan isn't done yet, right? Because when I choose it, it just looks like a cross between SubSilver & Classic...New banner looks cool...Although a little big.

I've just found and uploaded the frames images from the CC cd. They could be useful for anyone who wants to make new forum styles (the black background is easily removable). I didn't know where to put them in the wiki so they don't have pages yet. I don't know if I should hotlink to them here too, so I'll just put the links :

Note to self: Create new rank, Magical Dreamer, after Dimension Crosser. Uses Nikki image. This will balance out the Pierre > Nikki > Guile trio.

Alright. I've gotten the post icons and color scheme done for the new style to go with the site, called 'Zurvan.' Take a look at it now in your profile. I'm not sure I want to do with (http://www.chronocompendium.com/Forums/templates/Zurvan/images/icon_mini_profile.gif) and other small images like that at the top, and I have no ideas for buttons. Creative ideas would be appreciated. The theme here is heavenly, dreamy, oceanic, etc. as Zurvan was the sea of dreams. Anything similar to the new Compendium layout would be fine too.
