Title: CT Unglued 13, Sakaguchi Comment, PS3 Woes
Post by: ZeaLitY on April 30, 2007, 01:03:14 pm
Episode 13 of Chrono Trigger Unglued is available here (http://www.chronocompendium.com/Stories/32); Cryokinetic is still missing in action as Clovis does a sweet job. Hironobu Sakaguchi, the famed Dream Team member and Final Fantasy creator, remarked in an EGM Vol. 216 interview that Blue Dragon is an extension of Chrono Trigger. I guess it is in the Dragon Quest vein, concerning happy quests and things, because Zeal and Masato Kato's direction differ from that kind of thing. Lastly, someone on Gamefaqs has attempted Chrono Cross on the PlayStation 3 and notes that the game freezes after the final boss. Call it a victim of failure in reverse compatibility. Kutaragi has stepped down and Sony is mounting over a billion in losses for its video game division, so times are dark for this console series.

Chrono Trigger Unglued 13 was mildly amusing.

What exactly did Sakaguchi mean by an "extension" of Chrono Trigger? Does he mean it's part of the Chrono world? Is it just made in the Chrono style?

As for the Playstation III, it's sad, but not surprising. Though superior technologically, the Blu-ray will fail due to the high cost of the blue laser, and as such as the PS3 and anything that utilizes Blu-ray will also fail. It bothers me, because I supported Blu-ray in this battle of new media, just like my parents supported Betamax--also, ironically, created by Sony--until VHS smacked it in the face and won out.

Never say never. Sony expected its loses. It might pay off in the long run.

I agree on the point that the ps3 is very pricey, so much that really for the price, you could buy the whole ff series and probly a few other nice collectables for the high end model, and also, like you said zeal, their might be a big problem with backwards compatability for many games or your favorites from the previous gen. that can't be played on the next gen counsle :? all that in mind, I'd buy a 360 to get dead rising and crackdown before I buy a ps3 and not have any new games for it because I'm completly freakin broke

No need to have backward compatibility, all the ps1/2 classics are ported to the PlayStation Portable anyway

Blue dragon just has a similar artstyle, similar character design and also a ship that looks very much like the Epoch.

I haven't seen any transcript/scan/translation yet, but my guess is that he's just referring to the happy-happy style of Chrono Trigger. He might also be using Toriyama's, Uematsu's, and his name simply to advertise his game and bring more people to buy it. I mean, his recent dissings of Final Fantasy are a little disturbing...

Note that I've never played Blue Dragon though. It would be nice if there were an actual Chrono reference or something in it.

Hmm...looks like some of us will have to play Blue Dragon to find out. Don't look at me, though...I have no intention of owning any new generation console for another two years at the earliest.

I have the nintendo Wii, pretty gosh darn good. Its pretty much in the lead since the PS3 is all expensive and buggy and that the Xbox360 is old news by now. I almost forgot about it myself! ahh but the Xbox is pretty good.

Okay, I know that most of you felt 13 was too short.

However, what I want to know is what you thought of the voiced use of Gaspar at the beginning. I've already gotten the opening narration recorded for Episode 14 and have already begun animating it, so I'm not going to just throw it out at this point. However, as timing those head bobs is difficult work, if people don't like it and just want it to go away then it most likely will.

I didn't mind the head bobs, so they were fine. My only concern was with the recording quality of the voice itself...it had a few air pops and what not common to the quality of microphones most people have, but this is easily eliminated with a freeware audio program Audacity.

Otherwise, well done, though to be honest I thought it went just a bit TOO overboard on showing how much of a fourteen year old she was.
