Title: Chrono Crisis Discussion
Post by: ZeaLitY on January 15, 2005, 05:14:44 pm
I enjoyed it, though I had to get used to RPGMaker2003 (not very difficult). Rest of my commentary's in the second editorial/interview.

What'd you guys think?

I think it needs work. There were a lot of bugs and difficulty problems.

Hey guys, I'm the creator of Chrono Crisis. Just wanted to let everyone know that Crisis is now being developed in a much better program, and it's also going to be executed in a completely different way. The official website will be up soon, for now I have some sketches of my brand new original characters to show.

But first, here's the new introduction and a brief summary of the story:

The Earth... She holds everything we know, everything we can ever hope to understand. She is marred with the scars of humanity, wounds from wars fought needlessly from era to era, dynasty to dynasty. I suppose it is natural to pray that time heals all wounds...But there are some things that even the long droning march of time cannot heal. We learned that as children. We witnessed the dreaded future sculpted by the extraterrestrial being known as Lavos, and gazed into the dying eyes of the people there... And saw nothing but bleak grey. Everything was grey. It was if Lavos had taken even color from the people of the world... But why? Why was our Mother Earth under attack from this horrific monster? What was... Lavos? And why could it warp the minds of whomever approached it? We tried to fight it... We chased Lavos through time, doing everything we could to tip the scales of fate in our favor. We risked everything for a future we could never hope to see. In the end, we emerged victorious, saving the future, and ultimately, we hoped, ourselves. It was such a long journey... And we were so young... If we had only known that the evils of the world didn't end at Lavos... If we had only seen the evils in our own kind... If we had only realized that by saving one future, we were destroying our own...

Now, nearly 1,000 years have passed since Crono, Nadia, and Lucca returned home from defeating Lavos. A mysterious new villian arises from the depths of time to send the world into darkness once again, and it's up to a new team of time travelers to set things right. The young Xavier Ashtear starts what becomes the next epic chapter in the Chrono saga, paving the path to the true future by uncovering the secrets of the past. Our new heroes will discover the hard way that time is a very delicate thing... And that the slightest change can have great consequences... Consequences they never thought possible.

Matison Embree (Best friend of Xavier)

Celia Guardia (This is an old sketch, a new one is being done, and Celia is a current princess of Guardia in 1999 A.D. , along with her sister Lillia.)

Arlecia Chino (World famous rock star)

And here are some screens of Arris Dome, 1999 A.D.

These are just beta shots, since I'm working to get them to blend with the CT style as much as I can, but they're a start. Once the new NPC sprites are finished the areas will also look more populated.

So, what do you guys think?

Looks really good, the sprite of the girl could be brighter though. This is panning out to be really cool. Great job so far.

A good amount of those tiles are from Sailor Moon: Another Story. They're modern looking and I think they blend very well, so I use them.

You mentioned switching from RPGMaker to another RPG engine. Would you be willing to state what you're currently using?

Matison Embree reminds me hella lot of Kid. I do like what I see. And I do think you've used Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon:Another Story? I loved that game. GO SIN!.... NVM...

Anyway, I like what you've used from it if you have, it does make it all look more futuristic, maybe try using some things from the Neo-Tokyo area?

Who did those sketches anyways? Was it you, yourself, Chains Of Fate? Or another Chrono Crisis team member? I gotta say, I love the hair! Especially Arlecia Chino's. She seems really original while still having just a little flavour from Chrono Cross and various FFs (not Amano, but the other guy...why can't i remember his name? i normally don't like his style, but i don't see a lot of it in her design, but it works nicely).

I don't see the Kid-connection myself...besides the fact that they both have big whoppin pony tail dealy boppers...

Oh, and, although I haven't played the demo (yet) myself...The screenshots look pretty amazing. Good sprite work.

Here's to getting it completed! *clink*

Sorry about that, it's being developed in RPG Maker XP.

Hmm...she's definately not supposed to look like Kid intentionally, but she's being redesigned a bit anyway. Her hair will be down instead of up, and her outfit will be slighty different. The other characters will recieve a bit of revamping before they're final as well.

I have to say, I did not do the sketches. They're the handy work of my brilliant spriter and artist, Jenna (AKA Celera).

I basically ad the same problems as verified by others around different boards - The Heckran Room part, running parts, sidequest parts... I'm not sure what someone at a board (either this or gamikaze or somethin') meant about the walking animation, exactly, but I wonder if it's possible for Crono when he runs to have a running animation instead of a power walk? ;)

So, do you plan to release another demo soon, or the full version at a later date?

Another demo will be released soon, not setting a date right now though. And as I've said before, the next demo is going to be completely different from the first in virtually every way.

i noticed the freezing, all u have to do if u r playing the game on Test Play in RM2K is to press F9 and change one of the Variables to a dif. number, cant remember what it is called though. It is a bug.

The game looks promising thus far. I'd like to see it in it's final form. I'm also curious about how the soundtrack is going to sound. Will there be any songs that we recognize from CT at all? I'd love to hear a remix of "Singing Mountain" now that I've heard this track in it's full-on glory. I could actually imagine a heavy metal remix of that song, oh dear God would it ever sound awesome.

(Reviving dead topic)

Exactly, I leveled up to 13 before i fought him. He came close to killing Nadia, but I pretty much whooped his ass. :p

Like i said on the Chrono Crisis forums.. love the game, hope to see the next version. ;)

i just finished the demo of it and was very impressed with it it did freeze up a few times but nothing to bad. Though i have said this many times before some 1 needs 2 do a chrono trigger that doesn't include the events of chrono cross it just wasn't a great game and killing off the 3 greats RPG Adventures of All Time is just wrong trigger was the game that got me started on RPGs. Great DEmo Can't wait for the next or full game which evers next man.
