Title: Chrono Frog
Post by: To4oo4 on March 27, 2019, 02:10:37 pm
This morning, I started creating a Chrono Trigger prequel depicting Glenn and Cyrus's journey to find Magus. I'm using RPG Maker Fes to create the game (it's a 3DS program; don't expect a Cease and Desist since I'm not reusing any CT assets).
Team: Myself
Plot: Glenn and Cyrus go on a quest to stop the Fiendlord (Magus), and his three generals: Ozzie, Flea, and Slash.
Program Being Used: RPG Maker Fes

The project will likely take a few months, as I'm developing it at the same time as another Fes project, and I'll need to do a lot of working around the limitations of Fes.

Edit: I don't need a forum since it's not going to be anything grand, at least I don't think so, plus I'm the only dev. And most people don't use Fes.
Edit 2: At least I don't think I'll need a forum.
Edit 3: Suggestions are welcome and appreciated.
Edit 4: Forum may be needed in the future.
Edit 5: A forum would be appreciated.

So if you aren't using any CT assets what are you using for art and music?  Are you developing your own?

There are no custom assets in that tool. Just the stock assets and any DLC.

Nice! Tell us more about the project, To4004! What's the storyline?

Tbh help with the plot would be appreciated; my story-creating skills are nigh nonexistent.

Edit: So far though, I'm planning on including a boss fight with the Frog King and a few fights with Magus and his generals. The final boss is going to be Magus.
Edit 2: Also planning on having Cyrus fighting Masa and Mune to get the Masamune.

Currently I'm only planning on having two party members in the game (Glenn and Cyrus), but I might add a few temporary ones.

In regards to plot, I came up with an idea for the prologue; Glenn's early childhood and how he first met Cyrus.
Edit: I'm scrapping that idea for now. I'm currently creating the overworld, and am trying to have it look very similar to 600 AD, with a few minor differences due to the 10-year gap between this and CT's 600 AD.

I'm going to have Magus's Keep as a bonus dungeon. Not working it until the game's done otherwise, though.

Edit: Magus's island is finished on the Overworld. Currently creating Guardia.

Nice! Tell us more about the project, To4004! What's the storyline?

So far, what I've come up with is...
The first act will revolve around Glenn and Cyrus trying to defend Guardia from Magus's forces (clearing out a few dungeons). Second act will be about Glenn and Cyrus's exploits against the Frog King. The third act will be Glenn helping Cyrus retrieve the Masamune. The fourth act will be the journey to Magus's mountain fort (taking a liberty here, just imagine they fought Magus at a mountain fort.) The fifth and final act will be them journeying through the fort and fighting Magus.
Edit: Just remembered how CT went. Fifth and final act will be retrieving the Masamune and fighting Magus. Fourth act will be going after Ozzie and co. Third act will be part of the war.

The upper half of Guardia on the overworld has been completed.
Edit: Guardia on the overworld is mostly completed. I have moved on to creating Guardia Village and Guardia Forest.

I'll probably release a demo of the overworld in the next few days. Depending on how quickly my creation of Guardia progresses, it might be a playable short demo of the game.

I'm releasing a demo of what I have on the overworld so far. The demo isn't public on Fes, so you'll have to input the ID to download the demo. The game's ID is 8qb6m2tz.

I'll periodically release updates, though none of them will be public on Fes for a while. I'll keep adding the IDs alongside the updates on here.

Random Edit: Also, please don't call me To4004. It's To4oo4.

I won't be working on the project for a few days due to personal reasons.

No, it's not an April Fools thing.

The screenshots may not be of the best quality, but I'll try.

Updating my schedule for working on the game...

Since I have school and other stuff (including another RPG I'm making at the same time as this), My priority is Discord Fes, but CF is going to be worked on still. I'll be focusing on CF for the next few days, then I'll be taking a break for a few days. Anyways. Should be progressing much more after that.

This felt really poorly-written, sorry

Over the next few days, I will be working on only Chrono Frog, so I should make massive progress. I'm hoping to have a playable demo of the first chapter by the end of April.

Bummer, but understandable.

Another fan project dies (or at least crawls back into the darkness, to hopefully arise another day).

Merely crawling back into the darkness to arise another day. School's keeping me really busy for the next few weeks.

Good, glad to hear it. I know how real life can be at times; good luck with school and finals/tests!
