A similar thread was made on OCR quite some time ago. Do you have a favorite place in an RPG? Mine, of course, is Zeal; I'm in love with it, that paragon of enlightenment, beauty, tranquility...shining isles of verdant, emerald hills, golden-white edifices, and the azure skies of the heavens...ahh...Zeal...
-
My favorite place in any RPG is also Zeal. Imagine it, to stand atop the floating world and behold the planet below...a priceless gift wrapped in cloud, a shining jewel of unimpeachable value, a treasured home wrought of curiosity and meaning, a world caressed into a softly curving horizon so distant that not even the eye can reach it....to stand there and behold those sights from above, and to know that it is that world that gave rise to your people, who in turn created the floating world itself, and that you live there, in the capital of all human accomplishment, the masterpiece of sentient imagination, with halls decked and orchestras engaged, and that you know how to dance. Would you not feel tinier than the tiny in such a place? Would you not feel greater than the great in such a place?
But in addition to the Kingdom of Magic I should also like to add one other place in the worlds of RPGs where I find myself lingering whenever I should visit. It is the top of the pyramid in the Dark World in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Nowhere in any video game has a single image moved me so strongly as that time when Link stood atop the Golden Pyramid of the Triforce and beheld the tall mountains to the southwest, with Ganon's Tower crowning Death Peak, and all is silhouetted by the setting sun. No processor power and no generation of console can come closer than that beautiful, terrible image.
And, only because it needs to be said, the music in both Zeal and the Dark World helped immensely to develop the mood.

how about the Sauron's Abode mod for morrowind? does that count?
-
I, too, like a place from 12,000 B.C. in Chrono Trigger... However, it is not Zeal.
My favorite milieu is, in fact, North Cape.
The atmosphere just seems to hit a spot with me, no matter what my mood. I can watch that place and hear the black wind calling, be I upset or cheerful, and it pleases me. Be it the depressing gloom that is to be naturally felt, or the thought of that world being the new hope for the survival of the human race... or even the rage and confusion that Magus brought to it on occasion. And I always did love the wind.
One also can't beat ANY location in FF6 that Kefka graces his presence with. Uwee, hee, hee!
-
it's been a very long time so i can't recall names. but that town to the west of the school in the very beggining in ff8 is one of my favorite places in an rpg.
the beautiful music captivates me and sets the mood for such a peaceful little oceanside town. I can imagine walking up and down the cobblestone streets and brething in the fresh sea air.
outset island, from the newest installment in the zelda series, is another one of my favorite places in an rpg. mostly for the same reasons as the town stated above. I just love that type of peaceful atmosphere.
-
(D_H_Magus, I think you're speaking of Balamb)
Well, my fave place is the Dead Sea's Leene Square (Time Crash Ground Zero eh  )...
the orange sky and the setting sun are really beautiful, and the writing on the Bell is quite... well sad, nostalgic, melancholic?
the only missing thing about this place is North Cape's wind...

The call of the black wind in a place such as that? Now that would be sweet.
I also just recalled a similar place that I cater to: Death Mountain. Although I don't like it as much as the North Cape, where the black wind's fury is constant, it is still quite a nice place. The best place, however, is the summit from which you revive Crono. Just look at that byss, broken only by the single light, which is, at best, eclipsed! Of course, this only favors to me when I'm in darker moods, as I don't see the "silver lining" in that single covered light. So, it would appear I am in a dark mood at current...
-
Currently, after finally playing FFX, I've gotta say I've gotten a soft-spot for the Blitzball arena. It was just...more...fun then the game :\
Uh, I also like all the craziness of the rooms leading to Gogo in FFVI. I dunno why...
-
In FFVII, Cosmo Canyon is a great place to visit every now and then. Also, I love visiting Neotokio (not a typo) in Terranigma; before Asmodeus kills everyone in Neotokio, though. Loire is a great town in that game as well.
-
Mine is Figaro Castle. the motorized castle that can move beneath the sand. i like the melt of old style (the castle) and the technology
-
Oh, so many... I love Doma Castle in FFVI... The tragedy, the air of injured nobility... Lake Hylia in Zelda: OoT... Sunrises over it were so gorgeous... Frog's house in CT...The clearing in the forest of CT right after you saved the forest... And I've always had a tender spot in my heart for Magus' Castle.
And there's probably about fifty places I'm forgetting. Ah well.
-
I like the Zora Beach in LoZ: MM, Frog's House, Lucercia's Cave, Gizamaluke's Cavern, and too many others to think of.
-
Balamb Garden of FFVIII. Not only is it a great center for learning and training, but it can also become mobile. You never have a problem actually bringing your lessons to life when you can visit the place you are talking about in person.
-
My favorite places in any RPG are the peaceful kind. Frog's House is very peaceful. If I was there I feel like I could just fall asleep right there in that bed. Another place for me is Aeris' House off of Final Fantasy 7. The flowers and music really make it for me. The scores always have to be soft and beautiful for me to really like a place. I know there was another place but I just can't think of it right now. I'll get back to you on that later. Now I'm going to bed.

Word. I love Balamb Garden.
-
I'm not sure where I'd love to be in all the RPG's I've played. So, to make it simple, I'll go with the world of Myst (from the original game, mind you,) so that I can just write my own worlds to go to.
-
A multitude of places....between Balamb, Water Dragon Isle, Lake Hylia and Narshe I'd gladly go to any of the four to have a Michelob Ultra and reflect.
-
Kiapo in Final Fantasy IV. Just a small oasis town in the middle of the dessert. To me it just seems very peacefull, very warm, very safe from the merciless sun and sand outside.
-
The End of Time. Especially with the music, you get the feeling that your in a solitary spot in the universe.
-
The Crystal World at the end of FF9. It wasnt my favorite game, but I just loved that place. I also liked Zeal, and Alghetty. The Black Omen was cool too. I liked the FF4 final dungeon in the Moon. yay.
-

Better desert oasis town: Dazil, in Xenogears.
Other good places:
Yggdrasil, Xenogears
Bledavik, Xenogears
Nortune, Xenogears
Shevat, Xenogears
Lahan, Xenogears
Sense a pattern?
-
You and your Xenogears. That game has got to be the most over-hyped thing ever.
I'm sorry, that's a hateful lie, I'm just jealous that I'll probably never get the chance to play it...
-
In a world with FF7, you call Xenogears over-hyped? Although, Xenogears is a very "love it or hate it" type of game. I for one, loved it.
-
Hell, most loved it. I've talked to very, VERY few who hated it. Of course, RD's right, it is love it or hate it: As few people as I know that hated it, even fewer thought it was just all right or just decent.
-
My favorite place is that Nimbus Land(I think thats what it's called) in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. I just love the clouds and that funny little cloud bus thingy you use!
-
Doom island in Lufia 1. Such a legacy put into that place. That game had a great beginning and ending, but the middle was a botched attempt to put the whole thing together.
Although, Viper manor in Radical Dreamers, that place couldn't be beat very easily either. Chrono Trigger with a gothic feel to it was always best. Remember Magus's Castle. That place was nice too. Viper Manor RD style was better though.
-
My most favorite place of all time?
Anywhere NOT in Xenogears Land. ;3
Seriously, I have quite a few favorites. I am in LOVE with Nadia's Bell on the top of Gheddon's Tower--the music is enchanting, you get to see Marle running around with a short skirt (haha XD *points, laughs), Miguel has got to be one of the hardest bosses to fight at that part of the game if you hate stat-boosting (like me), and the sunset is just AWESOME. I also like Memoria from FFIX (especially the Crystal World) and the Ancient Forest in Final Fantasy VII. Those ARE some darn hard puzzles to figure out if you play like a decent person without an internet printout in front of you. >P Oh yes, and one more place I love--Energy Nede, in Star Ocean 2. Excel was just too... blah, but Energy Nede added a whole new twist to the game (and it also added Chisato >D).
Oh yeah! The entire game of Radical Dreamers and Castlevania SotN. >P
-
Grr... Someone beat me to posting the EoT. I love that place ^_^ Watching over the different times.. the music... that weird guy sleeping against a light post... and most of all....SPEKKIO. Another place would have to be The Overlord's Castle in Disgaea: The hour of darkness.  hehehe emoticon thingys :D :) :( :o
-
My most favorite place would probably be the summit of Death Peak from Chrono Trigger. It's such an important place in the game, and the sky in background is AWESOME!
-
Though the last post was done almost a year ago, I'd like to add
FFVII - Gaea's Cliff Base camp
As a location. Barret wasn't lying when he said the nature there was awesome; seeing that flag fly and the path curve upward to twilight is breathtaking. Also, the actual building is very well done and cozy, and the roof window is interesting.
-
Are we talking about favorite RPG moments, or places in RPGs you would like to be at? I'm guessing the latter...
Lindblum, FF9. When I first went into that city, my first reaction was "This place is huge!" I have always had a tender spot for the medievalish RPGs, and this city was a perfect blend of that, and technology. For most of the game, it just felt like a retreat that I could go to, for breaks and stuff.
-
Hmm...so many to pick from...let's see....
(Not listed in any particular order of favor)
1. The Silvite colony in Skies of Arcadia when you fly up there on Fina's ship. It was a very Zeal-esque place, except, well...near completely deserted, I believe. It was magical to fly up past the skies and the stars to appear on this strange piece of incomprehensible technology, and hearing what the elders had to say...it was amazing.
2. Mars Lightouse in Golden Sun The lost Age. It really gave you a sense of desperation to climb, as if it was not lit, Prox would have been sucked off the edge of the world, and would continue to do so until the entire surface was gone. Plus, I found the snow whirling everytime you went to the outside to be a nice touch as well.
3. 1000 A.D., overworld. With my favorite Chrono Trigger piece (Memories of Green) playing, I really felt a sens of freedom and mysticality just exploring the 1000 A.D. overworld (especially in that desert-region...with no scenery to break the clouds, you feel like you can fly.)
4. The Dead Sea - all. After playing through mostly boring bits of tying up loose ends, you're treated to one of the most impressive places of the game, and one of them that convinces me that when people say Chrono Cross has no connections to Chrono Trigger has not fully played the game. Seeing a future that was erased from time..that YOU erased playing Chrono Trigger brought a feeling of awe. Walking on massive waves frozen in time as the futuristic world suffers the wrath of Lavos (one of the best moments = the room with the Lithosphere report of Lavos. You can see the waves in mid rush of the room, which really nails the point of the apocalypse home.) Other touches such as the room with the train and the boarding pass to Arris Dome add to it, as it connects to Chrono Trigger in ways that most of the rest of the game fails to. The enertron as well was fun with the classic "But you're still hungry" line after it. And the Leene's bell scene with Miguel and the ghosts/dream projections...that, to me, was the most emotional event in the game. Hearing the sad music play while you fight a battle that nobody wants to fight but is bound by fate, onlooked by the childlike ghosts that mimed the heroes of Chrono Trigger, spawning many debates over their fates after Chrono Trigger. To put it simply, this place was brilliant.
-
One of my favorite places in an RPG had to have been Zeal, just all of the technoolgy in 12,000 BC was exilerating.
-
Maybe it was just the music, but one of my favorite places was Kazarov Stonehenge in Dark Cloud II.
-
Ahh yeah, thats a good one.
As for my answer, Central City on Energy Nede in Star Ocean 2. I just love that its the center of the once great Nedian race, and a last stand against the Wise Men. It has great music, and so many key elements in the story happen in that city.
-
I probably loved The castle on Doom Island the best in Lufia 2, which was acctually the first chapter of history in the series anyway. The music was a blast and you could see outside below the island to the land below it, which was kinda scay, in the windows.
I really loved Zeal for a long time, especially for the music and the whole plot and how such a great civilization harnessing magic could go so wrong.
I also loved the Mercury Tower in Golden Sun, the music was soo relaxing and really nice to listen to :)
Harvest Moon: Back To Nature's top of the mountain was nice, especially on events when you were sittin with your girl :P
Neo Tokyo in Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon was cool too lol XD
-
But in addition to the Kingdom of Magic I should also like to add one other place in the worlds of RPGs where I find myself lingering whenever I should visit. It is the top of the pyramid in the Dark World in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. yes..Yes...YES!!! So right! Everytime I hear that theme I get goosebumps. That track is my favorite sing from any Zelda game, it is so powerful and moving. Just excellent work.
As for a favorite place...I would have too hard of a choice, but it would be between Fourside and Truce. Both have excellent themes, and thier own special aura. Fourside for me was how I thought a city would be like (minus the crazy taxis), and Truce is such a great town, especially the ferry. I still take a ride on the ferry when I play the game, it is just so great.
-
My favorite area in an RPG is the dead sea in Crono Cross. I like it because its so shrouded in mystery I still dont understand everything about it.
-
Shadow Forest in Crono Cross always gets me. I mean if I saw a place in real life that was that beautiful, I'd never want to leave. And of course Zeal, for all the dreaming and learning.
-
...and Truce is such a great town, especially the ferry. I still take a ride on the ferry when I play the game, it is just so great.
Yay, I'm not the only one who rides the ferry for the hell of it.
-
FF8: Eshtar-ZOMG!!!oneoneeleve (sorry)
CT: Dont hurt me, but in 2300 AD in Belthasars place. The music was so wonderful, and the place was so sad.
FF9: When you fight necron
Kingdom Hearts: The end place, with Ansem
-
My favorite place is (I think) the Dead Sea of Chrono Cross!
It was interesting, creepy and..... it might make you think ".....I have a badddd feeling about this." ^_^
Zeal is next.... Who wouldn't like a flying nation or kingdom? :P
-
FF 9 - memoria the whole place seemed to bleed with sadness havent seen another game with a place with that kind of emotion
loZ OoT - whole game really but the Lost Woods is a place that really captured me first time i played
Terranigma - Crysta my favorite town in a game ever
CC - the burning orphanage the music was great remembering the place from CT plus it was a amazing story point
CT - 65,000,000 BC no real reason i simply like the era
-
ff8, field next to edeas house

I've been recording my thoughts on FF7, and wrote more of this place. I tried to give it a description that readers could relate to.
It is humbling and sublime to stand at the base camp of that northern part of the world as the wind blows in hazy sheets down a path of pure ice. Cloud had to ascend the north pole of his world to find where a meteor had impacted it eons ago; he had to trudge through below freezing temperatures in a place forsaken by man. And there, at the base of that terrible journey, imposing with thin atmosphere and barren stretches of punitive rock and ice beyond, is a base camp made by a traveler who attempted to reach the top of the world years ago. His friend long deceased, he maintained camp and lived there for years. The cabin is somewhat small, consisting of cozy furs, a bed, tools, and a loft with a window facing to the wind and affording a vantage of the impassable path beyond. The rock is blue and ancient beyond words, and the ice is permanent. The sky grows a paler and darker blue as it thins at the extreme north, and the exterior of the cabin has been chilled to a cold steel color. Yet this man lives, and the party stays at this cabin on the edge of forever before diving off to the utmost north. The cabin is the point of no return, the last place to observe the end and still manage to live. It is the end of the world.
-
Final Fantasy X - Besaid village background by the temple
or
Chrono Cross - Van's house on the balcony
-
costa del sol in ff7. just kick back and relax in the sun.
-
I have a few places I'd like to see:
Suikoden V: Sun Palace, Ceras Lake(HQ)
FFTactics: All of the Major cities in that game.
Xenosaga: Durandal (especially when it docks in that colony, forgot the name)
Dragon Quest VIII: The whole world.
Castlevania: SOTN: Clock Tower, Dracula's throne room
-
There's a Suikoden V now? Lord, am I behind the times...
-
Yes and this Suikoden is up there with Suikoden 2 in terms of gameplay and story. The story is awsome. My girlfriend doens't like video games that much but she begs me to play so she can watch and learn more of the story. This game is a must have.
-
All El Nido!
OOOK ~
Well, that'd be because El Nido passes me the image of a "perfect" paradise, with utterly beautiful landscapes, but at the same time it has its share of mysterious and morbid places, such as the Viper Manor, the Isle of the Damned and the Dead Sea... I mean, it's the land of the Dragon Gods :?
-
You guys do realize that the entire draw of this thread comes in reading about why these places are your favorite? I could rattle off a list too, but it would do nothing. You have to explain why; that allows everyone to share in the experience, and gets people interested in playing those games.
-
Ok zeality
Ceras lake: Can you imagine standing on the top level of a castle that is in the middle of a lake. Surrounded on all sides by beautiful shimmering water. and its in the perfect position to defend an attack.
Xenosaga(Durandal): Need I say why i want to visit this place?
Dragon Quest VIII: Its very hard to pick just on local in this game. It was such a beautifully designed game. Now I wish that I could see this world while using the Godbird's Soulstone. If you have played the game you know this was a highlight of the game.
Castlevania SOTN: To be in Dracula's thrownroom fighting him one on one would ba awsome. Hearing the castle creak and moan with demons and zombies would scare the living s**t out of me, but it would be worth it.
-
the city that never was: kingdom hearts.
... what?
-
Well I personally love staring off into the scenary and letting my mind wonder. It's so peaceful I wish I could be there forever.
Apply them to the gaming world, Besaid village by the temple near the sea is great. Chrono Cross in Termina on Van's balcony, staring out into the sea with that island. Incredible.
There's a part of the picture that makes me feel at home for some reason. The one thing I look for in every game is the backgrounds of 2D levels, RPGs . . . you name it, I just really like it.
-
I like the Kukai foundation colony in Xenosaga... But I'll never forget the serene BGM of Mac Anu(I'm not sure about spelling) in the .Hack series.
-
I like the Kukai foundation colony in Xenosaga... But I'll never forget the serene BGM of Mac Anu(I'm not sure about spelling) in the .Hack series.
I kinda favor the sky city.
-
I can't think of them off the top of my head, so I'll go through my games to come up with stuff...
There're going to spoilers, so I hope nobody minds
And I'll try to find pics of the places so other people know what I'm talking about
Kingdom Hearts:
Hollow Bastion... I actually really hate the whole elevator system and the sliding door system in the basement. I get really annoyed every time I have to watch the elevators move, and the sliding door system pisses me off because it looks like there's a hiden room that's actually totally inaccessable (I'm assuming it was in the beta or something like that). Besides that, I love everything else about Hollow Bastion, maybe because I played Chain of Memories first, and was so overwhelmed at how amazing Hollow Bastion is in KH compared to KH:CoM, or the feeling when Riku takes the keyblade. The exterior is really beautiful with the vast sky, and I always enjoy riding the one big elevator despite how much I hate the elevators because of the really awesome detail on the side of the castle. I love the Heartless symbol in the first place, and it on the castle is just an amazing sight for me. I don't know what the room is called, but the one with the princesses where you first Dark Riku, is so beautiful too.. plus, it has a heartless symbol on the floor. I have to say, though, that the second visit to Hollow Bastion was really disappointing because they hyped up how difficult it would be to go back and it turned out there weren't any encounters really.
Clock Tower in Neverland (http://kingdomhearts.rpgplanet.gamespy.com/kingdomhearts1/media/art/clocktower.jpg)... or the Neverland World, technically in England or w/e. But anyway, I love the music, and how you can fly when you're there. The area or room or w/e you'd call it is so open, I love jumping off the tower and falling for what seems like forever until the pixie dust kicks in when you reach the bottom limit
Kingdom Hearts II:
Twilight Town (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/2c/Twilightown.gif)... Although the opening is rather dull, it does make me feel rather attached to Twilight Town. I'm sure most people felt genuinely sad when Roxas says his "I guess my summer vacation is over" line. Also, once you get control of Sora, the music changes in the town, and it evokes a lot of feeling in me because it reflects how much I missed Roxas even though I never really liked him that much in the first place
The World that Never Was... I guess the main reason I love TWTNW is because of the Another Side, Another Story or Deep Dive videos that were teasers for KH2 unlockable in KH1; I'm sure I'm not alone in loving the mood set up with the rain and dark color scheme, and even if it's not that vividly expressed in the actual game, being there gives me the feeling that I get from the videos
Metroid Prime: I tried thinking of favorite places in this game, and I really couldn't think of any, but I wanted to add that I absolutely LOATHE the deep Phendrana Drifts with the Space Pirate research labs where you find the Thermal Visor and the lights go off in addition to the first appearance of Metroids, the Phazon Mines in general, and the annoying tall room in Impact Crater with the Fission Metroids that spawn for what seems like forever
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes:
Sanctuary Fortress... I love the exterior, especially the upside-down circuit-like rain, but it bothers me that the rain stops once you return the energy. The city that you can see bellow the fortress amazes me as well because it makes me almost marvel at the achievements of the Luminoth, but also makes me feel sad because I know that the entire metropolis is abandoned and that only a select few Luminoth are actually alive
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within:
Entrance to the castle... A picture would probably illustrate the feeling better than I could ever descirbe, but the way the camera is angled, the desperation of the prince, and the foreshadowing at all he'll have to do (I'm pretty sure you can see the water and gear towers in the distane) to be free just makes this brief part of the game stand out so much. It's not really a place that I'd go back to a lot to stare at, but every time I play it (3 times so far, because I failed to get all the life upgrades the first 2 times) I always take time to soak it all in
I want to go to sleep, so I'll just list some others... Lindblum in FFIX and the road to Zanarkand (I hate the actual interior of Zanarkand, though) and the Calm Lands in FFX
-
The End of Time in CT. It really makes you feel the vast nothingness of it all. Also Zeal is pretty sweet. And last but not least, Atlantica from Kingdom Hearts 2. Unda da sea! do do do-do do do-do do do do...Ok I'm obviously kidding with Atlantica. That place blows.
-
Burn it Down any ways. Zeal can stay but the rest has to go
-
I am resurrecting this thread. There are a ton of new active members on the forums, and this is one of my favorite topics. Having a little, nostalgic digital sanctuary is an interesting concept (though...things like Second Life honestly creep me out).
-
Whoa, an old gem of a topic! My favourite place in an RPG is probably Zeal. I couldn't believe how different it was from the rest of the Chrono Trigger areas when I first arrived. The style of the floating islands, the appearance and dream-based beliefs of the people, and the style of the buildings is so unique and fascinating. I love it.
-
Definitely Zeal <3
The music, the architecture, the atmosphere of the palace- and the fall of Zeal was the most tragic thing that ever happened EVER.
-
I just got back into it, but in Final Fantasy X it's gotta be the Blitzball Arena. I'm in that fucker more than I'm in the actual game, I think...:(
-
I think the main(or even some of the other characters) hometown is one of my favorite places in an RPG.
There's just something about it. Now matter what RPG it is, the hometown feels the same to me. I just enjoy being there.
-

You mean how destroyed it most certainly is/is going to be?
-
Bhujerba and Rabanastre in FFXII are awesome.

That doesn't always happen >.>.
-
My favorite place in an RPG would have to be...
Solaris from Xenogears...
Zeal from CT...
Valhalla from VP2...
I can't decide. :(
-
Hyrule Field at sunset in Twilight Princess is breath-taking.
-
Balaamb Garden in FF8 is one of my favorite place in a RPG but nothing beats Zeal in CT.
-
Honestly? I don't know.
I do have a few favorites that could compete for the top spot though, such as Lindblum Castle in Final Fantasy IX, Zeal in Chrono Trigger, Sky Dragon Isle in Chrono Cross, Esthar in Final Fantasy VIII, and Kefka's Tower in Final Fantasy VI. There's probably a few other favorites too: I just can't think of any right now.
-
Bhujerba and Rabanastre in FFXII are awesome.
Bhujerba is certainly among my favorite places!
-

Bhujerba is certainly among my favorite places!
It's huge in the FMV, but only a town and a mine in-game. Weird. Lowtown is very cool too. Love the music <3

Bhujerba is certainly among my favorite places!

Well, it seems to me that none of the cities you visit in XII are actually fully opened for exploration. In fact, at some cities such as Bhujerba and Arcadia, it would appear that you have actual access to very little of their respective territories.
-
Yeah, weird o.o But after the freedom and vastness of Dalmasca, well...
And it's Archades, I think...
-
And it's Archades, I think...
It is.
I mixed the name up with the TLJ series' world of Arcadia.
-
=O
Blasphemy.
-
I like Zeal, especially when getting there for the very first time. It had a "This place is nearly perfect but had a sense of foreboding...one of that where you know it's surely to be destroyed" ...Knowing that it was inevitable made it even more enjoyable.
-
In the world of freakland
-
The whole valley in Shadow of the Colosus.
-
The whole valley in Shadow of the Colosus.
I really loved that also, definitely on my top 10.
-
The whole valley in Shadow of the Colosus.
True!
Too bad Shadow of the Colossus isn't exactly an RPG.
-
SotC is like, my second favourite game ever. *hugs*
But it doesn't involve statistical character development of any sort- it is not an RPG.

Favorite place...hmm...I have many for games.
Tales of The Abyss - Coliseum - Those are always fun because their's always Cameo battles from previous tales games and it's fun.
Chrono Trigger - I'd have to go with Zeal. The place is just awesome.
-
(http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Lair/4544/fantasy/ff7_zolom1.jpg)
When I saw this, I knew fear of Sephiroth. And the music...whew. What a scene.
-
Yeah, this scene is scary(the lightning in the background makes it really like a scene from a horror movie).
I remember I encountered the snake when on a chocobo...really surprised me.
---------
And my favourite place in Chrono series is Leene Square's ruin in CC, I like the sunset background.
About other games...perhaps Arreat Summit from Diablo II...
-
Favorite place?
Zeal. However, I like it better with the unity of the Enlightened and the Earthbound, kinda like Zeal under Lady Fate (Schala) in T.O. before Harle made her mess.
-
My favorite place in an RPG? Oh, god, there are too many!
I enjoy the Floating Islands of Zeal, but I also like it when the islands have fallen and everyone's together. The City of the Ancients in FF7 is high up there, too, along with Balamb Garden (no matter how many times I get lost there) in FF8, Terra in FF9 (not Bran Bul. Hate Bran Bul.), and Zanarkand in FF10.
-
Dali in FFIX. It's so relaxing and just... nice. Then there's a clever plot behind it and a dungeon hidden underneath.
The Magitek Factory in VI is awesome, too.
-
Favorite place... I have many, but some of the most would be Termina, Viper Manor, Zeal, Chronopolis, and Terra Tower.
For non-Chrono places, it would be Venus Lighthouse from Golden Sun, Temple of Earth from ToS, The Underworld from Terranigma, The World of Evil from Soul Blazer, The Saturn Valley of Mother 3, Figaro Castle from FFVI, The Valhalla Plains from ToP, and some others.
-

When I saw this, I knew fear of Sephiroth. And the music...whew. What a scene.
Oh, that was clearly an accident...! It just slipped on a banana and unfortunately impaled itself when it fell...>_>
Anyways, I love it when RPGs have pseudo-strip joints like FFIV and I think a few Dragon Quests (Bunnies!)...idk, I guess that's just how my mind works...
-
Favorite place or favorite event? I'm confused.
Favorite place...hmmm - I'd have to say it's a tie between Zeal, Esthar in FF VIII, Bhujerba in FF XII, and Zozo in FF VI (such a cool part of that game).
Yes, even though FF games are not my favorite, they definitely have the most kickass locations.
-
Favorite place or favorite event? I'm confused.
I think you could like a specific place because a certain event took place there.
-
I can name a few memorable points and places:
Zork I, II, and III When in the dark
You are Likely to be Eaten by a Grue.
Planescape: Torment when at the Brothel of Slating Intellectual Lusts (specifically Yves the tail chaser)
This whole scene in The The Secret of Monkey Island(more of an adventure game then a RPG but I normally roll the genres together in my head)
-
Silvermoon City in WoW.

-
You are Likely to be Eaten by a Grue.
Someone on GamePolitics has that for a sig. Where did you get it?
-
Its a line from Zork, whenever your in the dark you are likely to be Eaten by a Grue.
-
Silvermoon City in WoW.
I LOVE Silvermoon, it's so gorgeous, especially in the town square.
-
Sweet Topic.
I always loved the Telvanni area in Morrowind. I can't remember if it was Tel Mora or Tel Bran or something like that, but in that NE corner of Vvardenfell I LOVED! All the architecture in that area was similar to this:
I also loved Zeal for literally every reason stated before me, and I also loved Magus' Castle. That Confusing Melody is my jam!! That castle was such an epic part of the game for me. More than epic I think. I liked Narshe from FFVI, but was so sad to find it deserted/wiped out.
-
Either that place where you get Life Meter Expansions, or the dream place you visit, both from Prince of Persia: The Sands Of Time. I loved the background sound for the former.
-
I'd have to say either Guardia Kingdom Present(so peaceful and joyous), Magus' Castle(for the longest time i refused to save at any point afterward because I loved it so much), Hollow Bastion(the one from Kingdom Hearts 2, incredible place!), or lastly The End Of The World from Kingdom Hearts 2(it's a giagantic city with not only plenty of calm resting peaceful spots but also loads of action packed fighting spots too!). Those 4 are all really good!
-
Its a line from Zork, whenever your in the dark you are likely to be Eaten by a Grue.
Hey, I remember that game! That was ages ago... wow. That was one of the first games I ever really played. Back in the early nineties when we got our first CD drive, Return to Zork was included. Ah, the memories. There were some driver issues, so it would always freeze, so I got into the habit of saving all the time. Heh. A fun game, but far too tough to do at that young age without the need for a hint book. I was only, like, ten, I think. How the heck was I supposed to figure out to get past the old guy and his boozing?
-
In the KH multiverse, I'd live in the World Of Nothing (where Sora and Riku fight Final Xemnas at the end of KH2). In fact, Shadow takes the place as his home in KH:ADE after learning how to escape and reuniting with a friend of his.
-
I like Fourside from Mother 2. Or Eathbound. Or whatever. I also like... ZEAL. Oh My God! So surprising.
-
(http://chronofan.com/Zeality/isle_of_damned_Garai_tomb.png)
I always loved how sublime Garai's dead dream seemed here. Thanks to utunnels for ripping.
-
This is a really tough question to answer. So many places I would love to visit in so many different games. If I had to narrow it down to just one...
...The village you create in Breath of Fire II. One of the most well done additions to an classic style RPG, where you found, and decide the style and residents of a village to your liking. Your actions can also make a town that provides a huge benefit to your characters during the game. On top of all that the city becomes a flying fortress near the end of the game.
Definitely one of the coolest places ever conceived.

Whoa. That's beautiful. Is it official art?
-
It is in-game background.
Although you might not notice the sky since Garai is so eye-catching.
-
Wow, looks nice.
And it looks like a lot of people like Zeal. or ZeaLity. =D
It's no surprise, really.
-
I like Zozo(FFVI) and Nifflheim(Ragnarok Online). Both towns have random monsters lurking about in them, which I really don't like. .__.; But they both have awesome music. I especially like the atmosphere in Nifflheim. I think I like Zozo because it's rainy.
-
Oh yeah, Zozo! I remember that place! Count it as added. I love the music there, and I really love the random people who are nuts.
-
...and I really love the random people who are nuts.
Then you'd love Moonside in EarthBound. That place was messed up on so many levels.
-
Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past. There was a bridge that you could go under when you learned to swim, some guy was camping under there, hidden from view. I think all he had was a campfire, a tent and a raft.
-

I remember him. He gives you one of the empty jars right?
-
I know this one's weird, but...
Kage / Shadow of the Ninja: I forgot which level it was, but it's the level of that vulture-like boss. Ya know, high tech enemies, blue blue skies, spaciousness, climb climb climb, and blue blue skies... reminds me of this song. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arS1QTxiQVo)
Chrono Trigger: Zeal. This was the ONLY place where I could actually breathe! Unlike the ruined timeline at 2400 AG for some reason I loathed that place x_x and felt like getting the hell out. Yeah, Zeal's the best! Those skies, those spaciousness, etc. You could imagine actually standing there and feel the world around you!
FF7: World Map. xD Okay, okay, sheesh!
FF6: Once ya get the airship you actually feel as if you RULE the world! Though I liked the Opera place a lot! But better yet, Thamsa! xD
The World Ends with You: The first city playthrough.
Pokemon Emerald: LILICOVE CITY!! 8D And the Weather Observation thing! Plus, the mountainous ranges.
Lufia: Ruins of the Lore: Mera Volcano (love the BGM!), Gondarle (gives a creapy and yet cool feeling), and the Stone Henge like place thingy.
Dragonball Z: Legacy of Goku 2: Nothern mountains (I remember how much I used to play this game, and it was this place where I worked hard to get all my characters to level 50 xD It was so damn heck fun to play! I liked the woods and the BGM, AND the monsters in this one), Gingertown (HOLY SMOKES, NO BODIES, ALL CLOTHES!! EXPLORE!!), Amenbo Island (you can see the WORLD from up here!), Southern Continent (mainly because the enemies are bad, the music kicks ass, and where the great battle against Dr Gero took place).
Dragonball Z: Buu's Fury: Kami's lookout (reminds me of Zeal a bit, you can fly around and annoy the heck outta Yajirobi! XD), Papaya Island (nothin beats like some hot blooded tournament!), Fukurou Forest (somethin about Samurais and Ninjas), And East District 439 (who doesn't love Home Sweet Home where both Goku and Gohan initially began their journey? XD)
-
I remember him. He gives you one of the empty jars right?
Yea, I believe so.
Another place that I just remembered was from Grim Fandango. The whole game takes place in the land of the dead, Aztec influenced I think. The place was Rubacava, a small little town/city right next to the sea and there was a little cafe on a cliff. The cafe eventually becomes a casino but I like the location before the change. Remote nice looking and quiet.
-
Here's my little list of places to love:
First off, Zeal! For reasoning, just refer to the first two posts in this topic. They sum it up quite nicely.
The North Cape as well. I always find myself visiting that place whenever I go to 12000 BC. It's where Magus joins your team! What's not to love about it?
The Future Dimensional Vortex, because of the room you get stuck in. My secondary team didn't have any good techs, so that part was pretty difficult, but it sure was fun to see Magus stuck in a room with Marle and Lucca. (made tiny because I don't know how to do spoiler tags)
And last from CT, Magus' Castle. Back when I was five and playing this game for the very first time, Magus' Castle scared the crap out of me. First was that constant, high violin note (very aptly named "Strains of Insanity"), and absolutely nothing there to attack you. There were a bunch of children asking you to play with them - why would children be in a place like this, anyway? - and your MOM. She shouldn't even exist in this time, but your mom is there, scolding you for playing in some creepy castle. Then they all have to turn into monsters and dancing skeletons.
Don't forget all the guillotines and chains, musty old carpets, dragon and demon statues, creepy paintings whose eyes probably followed you... All in all, it's scary. It's creepy. And I can't help but be giddy whenever I get there. Sorta ruins the whole feel of it, but it's still my favourite dungeon.
As for non-CT locales...
The Dragon's Den from Pokemon Silver and Gold. Good music, and it had dragons! Yay!
Unknown Dungeon/Cerulean Cave from Pokemon Red/Fire. Good music, and it had Mewtwo (yay!) and I died almost every time I went in there.
Piers' Boat from Golden Sun: The Lost Age. It's a boat. That flies. And it belongs to Piers :D
The Fire Temple and Death Mountain Summit from Legend of Zelda: OoT, because that's the easiest temple for me. I could finish that one in my sleep!
-
Favorite Non-Chrono Place for me is Kokiri Forest in Zelda 64. Probably one of the best places to live.
-
Favorite Non-Chrono Place for me is Kokiri Forest in Zelda 64. Probably one of the best places to live.
Oh yea that was good too. Although I'd prefer the desert area whose name escapes me...Guerrdo or something.
-
The Gerudo Fortress, or the desert beyond that?
I didn't like that part as much, got lost too easy.
On the topic of oot, howabout Dark Link's room in the Water Temple? And the boss room. Two hilariously fun battles. I just like the picture in the strategy guide of Morpha flinging Link around like a rag doll.
-
I'd prefer the desert area whose name escapes me...Guerrdo or something.
Gerudo Desert. Which one, though? 64 or TP?
And Dark Link's room is the most-used place in fan-art.
-
The Temple area and the fortress. I don't remember the actual "desert only" area.
The one from 64, i haven't played TP yet.
-
I think he means the Desert Colossus, where the Spirit Temple is, or the Haunted Wasteland.
-
The Spirit Temple was great, but the Haunted Wasteland, not so much. Those Reavers that chased you around in the sand were scary. Well, so was the rest of that temple... Okay, so I guess anything would be scary when you're eight, but still.
Now the Shadow Temple, that had some great ambiance. Same sort of creepy as Magus' Castle, except hands shot out of the ground and grabbed Link's face. That had to be one of my favourite monsters.
-
Super Leever was annoying.
Hands... You mean the Dead Hand. I remember now.
Yeah, Shadow Temple was neat, what with all the Darkness stuff being said.
-
I love that place in Twilight Princess where you ride on a giant top, and stab a huge skeleton in the face. Ah, memories...
-
That would be the Boss Fight in the Arbiter's Grounds. Stallord, Part 2. Loved the BGM. Reminded me of OoT.
-
I know this is a bit offtopic, but the message is terrible...

That's the fan-translation, isn't it?
-
What exactly was the effect? Zombified?
-
I don't know, I found this picture on internet.
It seems that's the Mind Mage's skill.
-
Doesn't it have the same effect as Osmose or something? It's not instant death, right? I remember that attack though, I think...
-
My favourite places in an rpg ....hmmm
I love the flower field in Final fantasy 8 and Eternal sonata they look really beautiful and the place where serge and kid have that conversation by the firelight in Water dragon isle .....its so cute
-
Doesn't it have the same effect as Osmose or something? It's not instant death, right? I remember that attack though, I think...
I asked some friends, it seems that enemy is called Mind Flayer(Flare in some translation).
Enemy name:
マインドフレイア/Mind Flayer
Skill:
マインドブラスト/Mind Blast
Message:
脳味噌を吸い取られた!/ Brain was sucked out!
Effects:
paralyze / gradually lose HP

My house - any RPG that allows me to have my own house. Why? because it's my house.
Terranigma, in the town of Loire - My House
Final Fantasy 7, in Costa Del Sol - My House
Lord of the Rings Online, in the Shire - My House
I think I've made my point here.
-
I remember this thread... it has been too long...
Though I thought I'd share something quick (one of my favorite places in an RPG as I am sure many others), Zeal. I snapped this off my hdtv while I was re-playing CT in the PS1 remake from FFC. One of many "favorite places", I will be sure to post another in the future from something else.

1999AD (peacfull version) of Gaurdia. I would love to live there due to having access to technology. I would be able to go to their version of Chrono Compendium.
