Title: Chrono Engine
Post by: Freki on November 13, 2011, 12:49:08 pm

Not a game, an engine. My goal here it's to create an engine that works almost like the Chrono Trigger game.
For this I'm using a game creation tool called Game Maker 8 Pro.

Last Update: 13/11/2011
By now there's not too much done, but what was done was well done.

Progress
- Walking, running and climbing movement
- Party following movement system
- Collision with walls

AWESOME! Super awesome! Do you plan to implement editable maps and battles and stuff too? How would one go about using the engine? Would one have to pay for Game Maker 8 Pro to use it? Etc.

Yes, I do plan to implement all of these stuff. GM8 Pro have some features that aren't in the free edition, and I'm using these features, so, you will need to have a Pro edition, which is paid. The source file will be available as soon as I make it more easy to understand and with a tutorial, of course someone who wants to create a game will need to learn a little bit of GML (Game Maker Language).

Yeah, I know some GML already, I figured that was a given.

Awesome stuff Freki! This would be a real boon to the community if you're able to get it going, and hopefully you'll get some help from passersby too. I seriously wish I had the time to jump into something like this, but the best I can say is "good luck" for now!

Would this mean that the game-making community might start back up in full force again? CE in the Chrono Engine? Am I getting ahead of myself here?

I have something like this shelved on my external drive -- made in C++ with a Lua scripting engine but largely incomplete. It was going to be a part of my non-ROM Crimson Echoes. I *may* pick it back up but odds are I'll make my own game and release my engine's source code.

Hey, I created some Chrono related things in GM8, for practice. If you need the font (which is in the form of a sprite), to use with "font_add_sprite," I can send it to you, if you haven't already finished that.

EDIT: It's the SNES White version. However, you can use GM8's "font_set_color(c_yellow)" to make it into the yellow text used in the Items and Tech Screen.

Looks like someone's got off the wrong side of the bed today. xD

Indeed, I was wondering how this engine was going. Any news, Freki m'boy?

I thought it was clear I was being facetious and was mocking the attitudes of those who actually do react that way.  Apparently, I was not.

And while there is the obvious potential for certain fan projects, an actual engine could be used for more...expansive goals.  Hence why I am eager for any news.

Sadly, I have no skill at all in any type of thing like this.
